- Take a class and pass an exam (required beginning 1/1/2024).
- Pay a $15 fee to the Secretary of State.
- You must post a $30,000 Illinois notary bond to perform remote notarizations. If you plan to operate as a traditional notary public only, you need a $5,000 bond.
- File an application, including a photocopy of the front and back of your driver’s license or ID card. Make sure your signature is notarized.
- Review the Illinois Notary Public Handbook.

How to Become a Remote Online Notary in Illinois
