How does a contractor license bond work?

A contractor license bond ensures that contractors will fulfill all obligations to clients. The bond agreement states that contractors will uphold the standards and regulations of the obligee (the City of Winona). If a contractor performs faulty or insufficient work, clients can submit a claim for resulting damages. The surety initially pays out claims, but contractors are ultimately responsible for repayment, up to the full bond amount.

You don’t have to pay the full bond to obtain your contractor license bond. Instead, you’ll pay a premium, which is a small percentage of the bond. ZipBonds offers many contractor bonds for just $100 and can issue them instantly – without pulling credit information.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, only one surety bond is required. The requirements listed by municipalities usually cover everything you need to work in that city or county. In some cases, however, both a local and state bond are required. Read bonding requirements carefully to avoid missing essential information.

Bonds often have one-year terms. The renewal deadline is typically a specific date each year (e.g., September 15). Remember to renew your bond by the date listed on the bond form and keep your license or permit current to continue operating in your state, city, or county.

About ZipBonds.com

Founders Ryan Swalve and Zach Mefferd formed the vision for ZipBonds.com when they realized how overly complicated it was to help clients place surety. The frustration of being unable to incorporate the technology they’d used in other insurance-focused projects left them thinking “there has to be a better way.”

Fast forward a couple of years, and that better way is the impetus of everything we do at ZipBonds. We constantly look for innovative ways to improve the bonding process for our clients and agents. Our team comprises individuals who understand all angles of surety – for companies, agencies, and individuals. Incorporating everyone’s point of view to improve the process while simultaneously integrating cutting-edge technology is what sets our business apart.
