Licensed and bonded farm labor contractor in Nebraska

Who needs a farm labor contractor bond in Nebraska?

All farm labor contractors in Nebraska must obtain this bond, as the Nebraska Commission of Labor requires. The bond amount is $5,000 and ensures that farm labor contractors follow the provisions of the Farm Labor Contractors Act.

This act holds that contractors will:

  • Pay all due employee wage claims
  • Pay all due to growers or producers of agricultural commodities
  • Comply with the terms, conditions, provisions, and requirements of the Nebraska Legislature Statutes 48-1701 to 48-1714

Once bonded, farm labor contractors can become licensed in the state. A license application requires:

  • Demonstration of good character, competence, and reliability
  • Never having been rejected for a farm labor contractor’s license/permit and never having had a certificate denied, revoked, or suspended within the last three years
  • Paying all fees
  • Showing proof of financial ability to pay wages of employees and advances by farmers, owners, or lessees of cropland

How does a farm labor contractor bond work?

A farm labor contractor bond ensures that contractors fulfill all applicable obligations to clients. By signing the bond, contractors agree to follow the standards and regulations of the obligee (State of Nebraska).

Clients can file a claim on the bond if a contractor’s work fails to meet any part of the agreement. The surety may cover the costs of valid claims upfront, but contractors are responsible for repaying the surety up to the total bond amount.

To acquire your bond, you will pay a premium, a small percentage of the penal sum. ZipBonds can issue these bonds instantly, with premiums starting at $100.

About ZipBonds.com

Founders Ryan Swalve and Zach Mefferd formed the vision for ZipBonds.com when they realized how overly complicated it was to help clients place surety. The frustration of being unable to incorporate the technology they’d used in other insurance-focused projects left them thinking “there has to be a better way.”

Fast forward a couple of years, and that better way is the impetus of everything we do at ZipBonds. We constantly look for innovative ways to improve the bonding process for our clients and agents. Our team comprises individuals who understand all angles of surety – for companies, agencies, and individuals. Incorporating everyone’s point of view to improve the process while simultaneously integrating cutting-edge technology is what sets our business apart.
